What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Massachusetts
I went to a healthcare clinic for an appointment. Since it was my first time there I was asked to go to a cubicle
to answer some questions, signs some papers etc. You know the routine stuff. The lady started asking me questions
that almost sounded like a survey. I was asked if I was married, how much I made etc. I really didn't see how any of that
was relative. I have healthcare through Masshealth and really all she should have been asking is for my card and ID etc since
I was in the system. Then she asks me "what is your nationality"? Now let me be perfectly clear she did not ask my ethnicity.
This Cape Verdean woman asked me what my nationality was. When I was in shock she said she had to ask and then asked,
what are you like an American? After 3 hours waiting for an appointment and watching patients walk in and out it became clear
to me I was being ignored. I watched people bring someone in and go in the back telling them they'd get them in fast. It all seemed
like a family affair. I don't think 3 hours to wait is normal. Maybe if you went over the hospital but for an appointment? I mean
before I went in this waiting room called urgent care the physician's assistant talked with the doctor. I was told I'd be taken now.
I wasn't. I eventually walked out. What does nationality have to do with healthcare? Not ethnicity but nationality and she knew
exactly what she was saying as she toned it "what are you like an American" like that was something inferior. I was born in this city.
Based upon her accent and my knowledge of the sanctuary city she wasn't born in this country. Later that day I called 911 and was taken
to the hospital. That health clinic thought my resting pulse rate was normal. I know it wasn't. Almost every patient in that waiting room was
from another country. I suspect many were illegal. Again nationality not ethnicity. I understand how certain ethnicities will be susceptible to diseases
but not nationality. I haven't been following the MA legislature too close did they change something? Two governors ago declared illegal aliens would
not be denied healthcare. Did something change? I'm an American. I clearly have a regional accent. I fail to see the reason. I know it's illegal for a cop
to go up to someone and ask them if they're an American. An employer can't exactly ask that. They can ask for id but just come out and say, "what are you like an American"? I'm also older than 40. By that I mean 40 years ago those people were not in this city. I tell you I have a good mind to go bring the stars and stripes and plant myself on the side walk outside this clinic. Trust me I'd get attacked if not killed.
