Exclamation

mom died of lung cancer

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NC

My mom went to the dr on Sept 8th complaining of pain... Between then and Oct 5th she was sent to the ER for sodium drips. One time 2 bags. On the First I took her to the dr who said he thought she had cancer based upon a CT scan that was done after Sept 8th. On the 5th I took her in to the hospital for a bisopy. She walked in on her own but came out on oxygen. (that was on a monday) on Thursday the dr said it was small cell carinoma. On Friday she needed a lift chair, on Wednesday she went to the cancer center, on Friday Hospice and on Sunday she died. 13 days after the bisopy.

The first dr has told me few times he was sorry he wasnt more aggressive for her pain and he really didnt think it was cancer.

Do I have a case?

I'm sorry for your loss.

But, if the cancer was advanced enough to cause your mother's death in such a short period of time, what do you think the doctors did wrong?

Or more to the point, what could they have done differently to change the outcome?

Small cell carcinoma of the lung is an extremely invasive cancer. By the time the patient goes in for a diagnosis, it's usually spread to other parts of the body and any treatment is typically palliative (i.e., pain control and perhaps buying a bit of time before the inevitable).

With an illness so quick, she probably suffered a lot less then other cancer patients that survive for months or years of chemo and radiation and surgery, and unbearable pain, before finally wasting away....I've seen a few people die like that I think your mom had it better.
