Hello, my wife developed a lump in her 🌹 lower left jaw. It was about as big as a marble and her lip was numb. We went to the local hospital ER. We have since been through 5 months of hell, cancelled appointments, one excuse after another. The tumor measures 5 centimeters now and we do not even know what it is. This is not normal i dont believe, it is taking its toll on both of us we are exausted, depressed, so frustrated, the latest appointment was cancelled on Jan 10th 2017 they said no new appointment but they will call in the next two weeks. IIs there anything i can do? Should i seek legal advise? Is a tumor time sensetive? It has grown to scary porportions and they keep putting it off. I feel so bad for my wife she is scared her face is all swollen we get no comfort from the hospital .please help with advise

Why did you go to the ER and not your primary care?

It sounds as if you've not seen any medical provider except to continue going to the ER - is that correct?

What is the name of your state, Mrjoep, or, if not in the US, what is the name of your country?

I, too, am curious about the sort of care your wife has sought and from whom she has sought it.

The ER is not where you would go for something like this. You would go to the appropriate type of doctor depending on the nature of the lump - dermatologist, oral/maxillofacial surgeon, general surgeon. Starting with your PCP would not be a bad idea.

ER doctors treat emergency issues. A lump is rarely going to be seen as an emergency matter. They would usually look to ensure it isn't an emergency issue and give instructions to see your PCP.

If your PCP is not responding how you believe is warranted, ask him about it. Express your concerns to him so he can either assuage your fears or do something to move things along. You need to realize that once a PCP either arranges for tests or refers you to a specialist, unless you tell them there is a problem, they don't know. They can't and don't track every patient after the refer you out.

Essentially what you are being told by the forum members is that your wife needs to see her personal doctor and not continue to go to the ER. The ER handles emergency medical issues only. They are not designed to offer long-term treatment.

The lump itself is not an emergency but five months is way too long of a time to let the lump grow without treatment. If it wasn't an emergency when it was the size of a marble, it can become an emergency if left to grow to "scary proportions."

If your wife does not have a personal physician, she needs one. If you do not have medical insurance because you cannot afford it, here is a link to an overview of California's Medi-Cal services (California's Medicaid Program): http://www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/medi-cal/Pages/default.aspx

Again, your wife needs to see a doctor who can refer her to specialists if necessary.
