can a doctor withhold life sustaining medication over non payment of a doctor bill? a prescription that he had approved for one year (pharmacy did not update their system and LOST the prescription) |

See another doctor.

| | | What's the medication?
Did you ask the Pharmacy to call the prescribing Physician and explain that they lost the hard copy of the prescription (which is REALLY hard to believe)?
Since the Doc already wrote the prescription once (when he/she provided services that they, in good faith, expected to be paid for), he/she is under no obligation to write it again, especially if you still owe them money.
Oh yeah....and what Zigner said!

Is it ethical is another question. But what will happen if he fills the prescription for the rest of the year, and you can't go back to him because you still have a bill?
I'm sorry for being somewhat negative, but these are questions that are important to understand what is going on in totality. |

| | | The prescription label on the 'bottle' will state how many refills remain and will state the expiration date of the prescription. I fail to understand any reason for the medication to NOT be available for the remainder of the prescription.
The Yellow Pages list physicians by specialty. Surely, the OP can find another physician before he/she dies from lack of the referenced "life-saving" medication.
