"Appearing in person, and begging (and a clean-cut appearance), sometimes keeps the Judge from suspending your driver's license or trying to upgrade the charge to a 'reckless' misdemeanor."

As a clarification, the DMV decides on license status, not the court. The DMV acts upon the license based upon the statute a person is convicted of when the abstract is delivered to their agency. A judge can order a person to surrender his license, but he cannot really suspend it.

Second, speed alone (even at 101 MPH) cannot - by law - constitute reckless driving. And a judge cannot upgrade the offense from the bench at trial in any event.

I didn't want to post this to thread as I did not want to appear to be dissing you.
