Admin Correction of DD-214 for USNWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Arizona I got out of the Navy more than 3 years ago. My DD-214 has one digit of my SSN wrong. I have been tentitively accepted for a job with the US Post Office and desire to bridge my retirement. I cannot even be hired until the SSN issue on my DD-214 has been resolved. I have called the Board for Correction of Naval Records who sent me to the Navy Personnel Command who sent me to the National Archives who sent me back to the Navy Personnel Command. No one seems to know who does admin corrections to a DD-214. Please help. Thanks, Jim |

| You can send a form DD-149 to the Board for Correction of Naval Records. A copy of the form (with addresses, instructions, etc.) can be found at: http://www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/infomgt/forms/eforms/dd0149.pdf Now, there may be a quicker/easier way to ask for a simple "clerical" correction but I can't recall one offhand. You'll have to explain why it took over 3 years to notice the problem, in theory the Board can decline to correct if it has taken you more than 3 years to apply, but I doubt they'll give you any problem if all you need is an SSN# corrected. |
