Army Officer Saber...

I know, I'm asking a lot of silly questions. I just was wondering what rank you have to be to rate to wear an officer saber (and YES I know its at least at the 2nd Lt rank)? I just know very little on Army Dress regulations (basically was in the AR 670),however, I know lots of info on Marine Corps dress policy... so if anyone has questions on that...

I believe it would be the officer, isn't the regular for NCOs? I'm talking about the commissioned officer saber.... I actually don't know too much about the Army's policy on this. I know in the Marines you rate the NCO sword when you become a Cpl and can wear it with any dress uniform. And the officer saber you rate I believe as soon as you commission to be an officer and can wear it with any dress unifrom.

ive never seen an officer actually wear one, but have seen several given as gifts. they should give NCO's the sabre, like the marines.

I talked to a Cpt. and he told me you can be any officer rank to wear a sabre but it is usually frowned upon unless you are calvary. I'm not sure about Warrent Officers though. Hope that helps.

Thanks!! ya it helps I a lot! I guess the Marines are just stuck on tradition and LOVE to wear anything that shows they have rank (ie the blood stripes and nco swords). Let me know if anyone has any Marine questions... I'm a walking dictionary!

Hey, so what all did you find out about Army Officer's wear of the saber? Just cavalry?
You a Marine, I presume? Gotta love that tradition steeped uniform! I grew up w/ Marine Offcer father, thought that uniform was always kickin. Wish I'd have gotten a commission as well. Are you looking at earning an Army commission now? I agree w/ you that the Army dress uniform would look exponenially better if sabers were generally accepted for all officers, instead of just cavalry being looked the solely accepted officer to wear it.
