You have about a snowballs chance of being retained and your attitude will not help. Try calling GI Rights and seeing if they can help you with staying in. They claim to be available to act in the best interest of those that have made massive mistakes like yours. The only option you really have is to return and beg for the chance to prove that you are no longer the immature individual that deserted your responsibility after you didn't get your way.

Getting back in

As a GI Rights counselor, I appreciate the warm recommendation from ERAUPIKE, but although we provide GIs who call 877-447-4487 with information on regulations, policies and practices, and help filling out applications for hardship, CO, complaints, etc., "acting" in the best interest of the GI is usually beyond what we have the power to do. Commands show a most annoying habit of ignoring our advice.

In this case, turning yourself in is only way you can try to get back in. In order to protect yourself from punishment to the extent possible, it would help to bring a statement and as much documentation (for example, a copy of your aunt's death certificate or some records from the funeral to substantiate the claim that you left for her funeral) as you can to explain why you went AWOL (as opposed to avoiding hazardous or important duty, for example). It might also help to call your command ahead of time to see what they plan to do and perhaps use your eagerness to get back in to negotiate. They, of course, would not be bound by any promises that they might make.
