Awol

What is the name of your state? CA

I went came back home on Christmas leave in Decemeber of 04. I decided I didn't want to return and went to the recruiting station and they said all I had to do was fill out an ELS, since I was still in AIT. My recruiter told me thats all I had to do.
In November of 05 I was pulled over and arrested for military desertion, and was released a week and a half later, and was told all charges had been dropped, and the people I talked to in the army had no idea what was going on.
I just received a letter in the mail that I had been taken off the roll sheets, and was AWOL. There was a number to talk to somebody in Fort Sill, OK, so I called 'em up and they said I'd have to go Ft Sill to process out.

What rights do I have? And is there any alternative?

My response:

What's the matter? Don't you WANT to die for that idiot, and his crew, in Washington?

Every year, on Memorial Day, I visit a dead private. He was killed in Vietnam. He was only 18, just out of high school, when he was machine gunned down by the Viet Cong, just 4 days after he arrived in Viet Nam.

Nice, eh?

So you visit this dead private's grave and then honor his memory by taunting others who at least at some point in their life felt they could fight and die for the same principles this other, long dead soldier fought and died for? More than likely this is some apocryphal crap and there is no soldier machine gunned down by the VC after four days "in country" - a turn of phrase I'm surprised you left out. Clearly, the number of people willing to fight is greater than ever given that we now have an all volunteer, professional military. People like this soldier, for whatever, reason, should be allowed to outprocess and those who choose to serve should be allowed to do so without someone like you running your mouth.

Only alternative is to stay AWOL and continue living life looking over your shoulder, and find your dream job just to have it snatched away in a embarassing episode because you are WANTED by the government.

Rights? You are property of the US government. You gave away your rights so that others will have them.

Go to Fort Sill and get it taken care of.

Good luck
