Awol for 4 months

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? VA

I have been awol now for about 4 months and feel it is time to turn myself back in. I will be finding out if I am DFRed from my old unit but as of right now that status is N/A. I enlisted as an 11B and completed basic training and ait and found myself getting depressed and realized that I made a mistake and that I had taken this turn in my life to fast. But I continued on with my training completing airborne school and shortly after that Completeing rip which if anyone does not know is the 3 week ranger course to be accepted into a ranger battalion, I was hoping that things would only get better but they only seemed to get worse. I was in my unit for 2-3 months when I went awol and have been awol ever since. My Questions are if I find out if I am DFRed will it be easier to turn myself in a Ft. Knox or will I still be sent back to my old unit? Should I seek legal counsel before I turn myself back in? and is anyone familiar with someone who has been in the same situation and what is the easiest way to approach it? I have had no prior article 15's or been in any trouble for the 9 months that I served.

in my experience, the more school you were given, the harder it is to get a fast drop.
