Awol

What is the name of your state? Indiana

Hello, I have a very serious question about my AWOL situation that needs some info shed on it promptly.

My Story: I am a graduate of OSUT from FT. Benning, GA. On my 2 week leave before I go to my base, I have gone AWOL. I havent hit the 30 day mark yet, but it is coming up, which is the reason i need a quick answer. I havent signed into my unit yet(obviously) which is FT. Carson, CO. Im at at a point in my military career in which I realize this isnt for me, I need to be home, the way I see it is that I did this without much thought since Im only 18, but i do realize I am an adult and not a child anymore and i have to take responsibility for my actions. The secondary reason is that my mother, my primary mode of transportation to the airport, ran away to Oaklahoma the day before my flight and left me and my 2 siblings alone, and I have spent the past time getting them someplace to stay, which is our grandparents, but they are very elderly and need my help. Also my recruiter called and told me the best way to go about this is to go to Carson before my 30 days is up, and as soon as I get there talk to the Chaplain and plead suicidal and tell them how hard of a time I am having with being in the army(depression, anxiety, etc.) and I guess I would just serve my 45 days and be out. But I dont want to go there and be treated like a freak for 45 days, I just want out, any way, and quickly. I have put much consideration into FT. Sill, but I dont really know what to do considering I havent read up on ANY case like mine on the web. I know Im a sissy and a pansy for not fufilling my commitment, but please dont reprimand me, I just need some logical info to my question. I just cant be in the Army at the time and in the following situtation. I had no difficulty at OSUT and was planning on going Airborne Ranger, but of course that was ruined. Once again, I know theres no excuse for what I've done, and I apologize for any of you I offend for what I've done. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

As a NCO in the US Army, currently stationed at FT. Benning I can tell you this. If you haven't hit your 31st day then you can still sign back in and face a little punitive action such as a Field Grade Article 15, which includes, loss of rank, loss of 1/2 a months pay for 2 months, 45 days extra duty, 45 days restriction. That's the most they can impose on you with a field grade. If you wait past your 31st day a federal warrant will be issued for your arrest, so if you got pulled over for doing 1 mile over the speed limit and they run your drivers license it would come up that you have a warrant out for your arrest. There are quiet a few lawyers out there nowadays that were former JAG lawyers in the Army that understand your situation. So think it out before you decide what to do, but turning yourself in will be easier then waiting to be picked up by a cop.

So if I have been AWOL from the Army (during basic training at Benning) for only a few days and decide to turn myself in at Sill, I will just be sent back to my training until and not discharged? I simply want out. I respect everything out Military does but its just not for me and I didn't know what else to do BUT leave. I do plan on turning myself in, but I don't want to wait 30 days before reporting to PCF. What happens if I turn myself in sooner? I know its case by case, but if I really want out, what are some general things that could happen?

I've only received 2 paychecks from the Army and have only been in basic for 4 weeks. I just want out and want to go through PCF (which I have read about on here, but it seems everyone had been AWOL longer than 30 days and I don't want to wait that long.).

My advice, report to your unit. Make them aware of the situation and seek their assistance. If you get no where, seek the assistance of the chaplain. If you still do not get the results you are looking for, make your decision as to whether or not go awol. Before you make a decision like that, at least give your command an opportunity to help.
