AWOL from AIT two days

What is the name of your state Texas(only U.S. law)?

I have no idea where to go that they will not look for me and I don't know how far they will go to find me in the event I even find a place. How hard does the Army look? What are their search criteria?

Looking for AWOLs

Typically, the Army does not send out people to find AWOLs. On the other hand, they do sometimes, and apparently more frequently these days, call the local police and ask them to pick someone up. This is much more likely after the soldier has been DFR and a federal felony warrant issued.

At this point, your AWOL is very short. If you have a condition or situation that warrants discharge, it may be in your long-term interest to go back and deal with that because it could result in a better discharge. Speaking with a counselor on the GI Rights Hotline (easy to find on the web) might help you clarify your situation and look for a better way out.

Do not listen to these people, it is not in your best interest. At this point, if you return, you could be looking at an ELS. An ELS has little to no impact on your future. Delaying your return will only make the impact to your future and your punishment harsher.

Doesn't apply to me. Have been in training for longer than 180. Thanks for the reply though.

Then you are looking at some very serious consequences but the longer you stay gone the worse they get. I understand your fear of the unknown. Please understand that not one person can tell you for sure what is in store for you. Time to find some courage and get this behind you.

Just found out from a battle that I am scheduled to be DFR on the ninth of july...I had no idea it would happen so quickly...Does that mean I can turn myself in to Ft Sill on the tenth?

It means you should turn yourself in now. It would be illegal for anyone to tell you anything different. You are breaking the law and continuing to do so will only make it worse for yourself.

Youth, turn yourself in, they will rehabilitate you and give you the opportunity to stay in and serve honorably. If you don't like your career option request for a change. Take it from someone who has been through it, and is now out. It's not great out here in civilian world, we're in a recession right now, that means finding a 10$ job is quite difficult with the competitions. Middle class is being wiped out, they're all moving to the 10$ range. This recession doesn't look any better for a while, I wouldn't be surprise if it lasted until 2012. By that time you would be near finished with your contract. Your punishment won't be devastating to your career as most of us think when we go AWOL/UA. They'll remember it during promotions, but screw promotions, honorable discharge is the only thing that matters when you're in the civilian world.

They'll find you. They usually won't actually come known on your door, but they'll find you. If you ever get so much as a speeding ticket, they will find you. If your driver's license is ever checked by a policeman, you'll be arrested. I was at Ft. Knox with a girl who had been gone for five years, ran a red light, and got busted. At some point you will be caught. Don't plot on how to get out of the military, plot on how to stay in. Many, many people do what they can to get out, get an OTH discharge and then go looking how to get back in.

If you find yourself DFR and plan on turning yourself in CALL them before hand. Get them to fax you orders to return so you can't be arrested. Just remember the faster you get this over with the faster you can go on and continue your life. I was held in military control for 11 days and was then sent home with an OTH.
