AWOL - cant afford to return, local bases wont send me

Ok, so I am currently AWOL, its a long story and I dont have the time to tell it, so dont feel sorry for me, mad at me, or any of the BS - Im just looking for answers and a way to get back to the Army.

My info:
Went AWOL -between- Basic and AIT
Completed Basic @ Ft Benning, AIT located at Fort Sill
Left four months ago.

As I have read on so many web pages, INCLUDING the Fort Knox DIP website,
"you can return to any base nearby and they will assist you with transportation back to yours".

I live in MD, I went to 3 different bases (meade, detrick, APG), walked into the MP Stations, and sat there for hours waiting to find out what would happen and hopefully catch a ride to Sill.

The AWOL apprehension officers at all 3 basically told me the same thing, that there is no warrant for my arrest yet, and that their system does not even show me as AWOL so they cant authorize any transportation for me. And then they tell me to go home.... W.T.F.?!?!?!?

I cannot afford to buy a plane ticket (or bus, apparently Greyhound charges the same price as a plane ticket) to get back to Fort Sill.

Does anyone know who/where I can talk to someone that would help me get BACK to fort sill?

I DO want to stay in the army and avoid a discharge, and I realize that means I will get article 15's out the ass.

Have you looked at the Sticky at top of page for information? Also, have you tried contacting your locale Red Cross for help?

You went AWOL at the worst possible time in your young career. Going AWOL between stations means that neither want to account for you as missing, because the paperwork is a hassle and makes the command look bad, so you've fallen through the cracks. Thats the good and bad news. The good news is that if you show up to AIT with all of your belongings, ready to train there is a good chance that they will put you through with the next group and give you an informal discipline. The bad news, like you've already found out, is that you don't exist because you're not on any logs. You should contact the Red Cross, local recruiting stations, local VFW, American Legion or any other charitable organizations. You need to beg, or borrow the money to get back and quickly. Are you getting paid via the Army?

Once you get back, you need to get an attorney as soon as you can. Make arrangement with a civilian attorney familiar with military law if possible. The JAG won't always fight for someonw who went AWOL. The quicker you do all of this the better chance that you may be able to salvage a military career.

I am NOT in the military, but as an outsider it would strike me that you should go up through your current chain of command.
I'm sure I'll be corrected

I called the number for the army but got connected to several different people. Is there a more direct number for the representatives that handle awol/dessertion? and pardon my ignorance but what kind of assistance do they offer?
