AWOL Husband has a few questions before going to Ft. SillWhat is the name of your state? Iowa My husband is getting ready to go to Ft. Sill and we were wondering if he will be sent back to his unit as he was in processing into active duty but left after 16 days there. He was in the National Guard for 4 years prior to him inprocessing into active duty. We just want to have an idea of approximately how long he will be gone. Also can the Deserter Hotline trace our calls to them and find out where he is?? Can he get stopped at the airport as I seen a few say?? If so how does he avoid that? Does he need to bring calling cards to call home or do they let them take cell phones? any information anyone can give me would be very much appreciated. thank you |

| If he's got a warrant, and he probably does, yes they may catch you at the airport when you go to check in. Online electronic check in is the only way to get around it that I know of. |

questionsSo is going to Ft. Sill or Ft. Knox for people who were only in basic or AIT when they went AWOL? Because my husband was in the National Guard for 4 years then was in processing into Active Duty when he left. He was only at his Active Duty Base for 16 days. He HEARD right before he went AWOL that his Unit he was in processing into was going to be deploying in October. I was later contacted by his SGT. who said that his Unit would be receiving orders to deploy in a week. After talking to some army wives there, i recently found out that his Unit did deploy in October. So will he be charged for Missing Movement? We just don't know where he should turn himself in, how long he will be gone, and what he will be charged with. I know there has to be someone else out there that is in the same predicament. Thank you for your responses so far. Any help further is also appreciated. |

| So he already knew that he was going to be deployed within 16 days of being there? Because when a soldier goes AWOL after knowing deployment is coming up normally there is a more severe consequence since he knew about deployment so they might might might lock him up im not sure..like any other time a soldier is considered a deserter after 30days but in his situation they normally consider him a deserter right after he left because of wartime..i will try to find out more..have they been looking for him?? |

| There are many people in his situation, but every case is different. Some people flee to Canada, some get caught, and some turn themselves in. Nobody is going to be able to tell you exactly what is going to happen. You can call the GI rights hotline, and speak with someone there. They may give you some more info. |

fort sill pcf he will need calling cards for what its worth. if you dont get a lot of calls from him its not his fault.deppending on how many people that are at pcf will affect if he can even call. but dont worry as long as he is there by tuesday at 12:00 he will be out by friday. and no they dont trace your call when you call the hot line. the army doent look for you they know that you will end up there sooner or latter.if you or the person is not active full time army. you will have to have your orders with you or it will delay your time at pcf. while i was at pcf i talked to my wife maybee 3 times.the only advice i can give for fort sill is to have 20.00 in ones. lots of smokes and chew. smokes and chew is worth a lot at pcf. and no one has change for a 20.00 since thats all you can have is 20.00dont bring your unifoms its a waste of space. they dont take them and you cant wear them. you should be out by lunch on friday. they will feed you **** about being there longer but they dont want you there anymore than you want to be there. just be ready too sit on your ass and smoke cigs. good luck and i hope life treats you well. DOPPLEHERTZ!!!!!!!! |

From the Alaska e-postthis is our post newpaper which you can find online: This is happening more and more as we are being stretched thin and running out of people. "Pvt. (E-2) Jonathan T. Bates, A Company, 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, was convicted and sentenced at a summary court-martial. Bates was convicted of being absent without leave for 14 days in June 2007, and for the months of August and September 2007, along with two charges for failure to report to formation. " Also Fozzy or someone could he be charged with "cowardice?" i mean he only left when he found out he was being deployed. |

Total update!!Thank you all very much for your help! Just to maybe help someone else out there who might be in the same predictament that we were in. Well my husband got caught from a traffic stop, he went to jail for 12 days until the station that he went awol from had an MP come get him from jail. The MP took him to a close by airport where he put him on a plane to go back to the duty station. He also reminded my husband not to go awol again on the connecting flight and when he got to the final airport as noone was there to assist him. My husband decided that it was best to just get this over with. He went to the final airport where he called for military to come get him..They transported him to the duty station and gave him a room in the barracks. Again where he could go awol again but didnt. They didnt have much concern with him at all. They took awhile but reinprocessed him in and then ended up going to Iraq for the remainder of the tour he was supposed to go with. He was there only 2 1/2 months. Threats were made of a court martial, loss of rank, pay taken, and detail duty, imprisonment, etc. but nothin acutally ever happened. My husband was very grateful and is finishing his contract as he learned to just go on Deployment and just deal with it. When his contract is over**************...he said he is done with the military!! So if anyone needs help I am more than glad to help you. I might not have the answer you are lookin for but I will try to get it or maybe someone else can help you. So what happened to my husband is definitely not the normal as other people have got imprisonment from his duty station. He got lucky and we are thankful every day!! Thank you to all who helped!! |
