AWOL Question

What is the name of your state? IN
I have a couple questions. My wife was in AIT at Fort Jackson, she was 9 days away from a chapter 8, (pregnancy chapter). She went AWOL she has been gone for about 40 days. She is on the Deserters list. I have called several attorneys but no help they basically said they wanted to be paid, for nothing. They say nothing is guaranteed and that the discharge will be better if we hire them but nothing more. I was hoping someone could also tell me what she should expect when she turns herself in without an attorney, if thats what happens. How long, how the days go, where she will stay, etc.. Thank you in advance. I don't expect everyone to look at this in a good light, and I would appreciate that you keep the negative feedback to yourself, just for the sake of getting some help, there is probably nothing you can say that she hasn't said to herself. If it wasn't for the pregnancy she would still be in. Thank you in advance. What is the name of your state?

First of all, I will say Im confused why she would leave with only a few days left, but I guess that does not matter. My advice to you is to have her get on a bus right now, i mean today and go to fort sill. If you live close, you could be there by tommorrow and there is a good chance she will be leaving there on friday. This is not always the case, but do not hire a lawyer, they are not going to be able to do ****, unless they wanted to court martial her, which most likely is not going to happen. Anything is possible with the military, but because she is only in ait, and was pregnant, they will probaly give her an " oth" , other than honorable discharge. The negative part of that discharge is some companies in employment might look down at it, but some people I know have great jobs with an oth. One other thing is there is a couple of people who post on this, who always give the 5th degree on how an oth will hurt a person later in life with regret and all kinds of bull****. If your wife wants back in the military, turn herself in and tell them, If she wants out, go to fort sill immediately.

Try the GI Hotline at: 1-800-394-9544. No one can really
say what will happen, because each case is different!!

The gi rights hotline can be helpful and comforting, but the reality is, they are going to tell you to have your wife turn her self in to fort sill, and I see you live in Indiana. She could probaly be there by tommorrow. Go to the gate, tell them your a deserter, they will take her to the PFC, and most likely be leaving on friday.

Thank you.

Thank you for the advice and that is what we had discussed so no big leap there. I appreciate the time that you put in on your answer. Thank you again.
