Awol/UA help

What is the name of your state? az

I have been UA from the Marine Corps Since Febuary 4th of this year and left during School of Infantry/MCT and had just graduated boot camp on January 6th. I was told on this website on a previous post that the best way to get discharged was to wait 180 days and turn myself in to Camp Pendleton, California, which is where i originally left from. Those were my original plans until recently about 1 week ago my mother was contacted from a Sergeant in the Marines and stated that if i turned myself in now with him he would gaurantee that i be discharged with a OTH discharge and be staying in for 2 months while my paperwork got started and while there i would be doing working parties while getting paid. I just need to know if anyone has gone through the same situation or if this is a scam to get me to turn myself in so they can charge me. Please let me know of any information that you may have. Thank You

It is not a double post SJ

Anyway your seargent is probably right. That is if you turn yourself in. Get apprehended and things will become much more difficult.

Good luck

You say you think its a scam to charge you, but the marines can charge you right now, they dont need you there to put a warrant out and have charges brought against you. You dont want to run and get apprehended by law enforcement. Do your self a big favor and turn your self in or contact that seargent if you know his name.

Be advised [marinesos] that if you do not asap back to where you left the Corps from; and they go after you, then if you think your life was hell in "Bootcamp" just wait until they capture you; and you can run but never hide from them forever! One question enters my mind: "Why have you screwed your life up?" I assure you as well as other Members here will, that, " a discharge less than honorable will forever **** your life up sooner than later; and you can take that to the Bank if you have any spare change which is highly unlikely! Shorty out!

I am not calling you a screw up or any other name for that matter, I am telling you to go and turn yourself in, that is your best bet. I know deep down you wish they would just send you a piece of paper stating you have been discharged and goodbye, but it does not work that way, call the g.i rights hotline if you want for more advice, the # is 1-800-394-9544. But really you need to turn yourself in.

Ok noone is trying to bash on you. What you seargent told you is pretty much right on the money. Many a military member have left the service this way, its called being chaptered out through article 10 of the UCMJ.

But being UA for only 6 weeks now thats where I am taking issue. You still have a shot of going in front of the MAN and getting a article 15 loss of rank forfeiture of money restriction, but you would beable to finish out your enlistment and get the honorable dishcharge that you have already put so much time and work into. You would be able to collect your GI bill and enjoy all the benefits of a honorably discharged veteran.

So my advice is the advice any poster up here with a shred of a decent reputation will give and that advice is to go back right now and make this right. Let them know you want to finish your enlistment. You have a window of opportunity to do that right now, but the window is closing.

Good luck

Thats funny Shorty, I hope you sleep better at night making people feel like crap for mistakes that they have made in life. I never said i wouldnt listen to anyone on this website, but when you ask questions like "why have you screwed your life up" what kind of response do you expect from me? So everyone that has posted a thread showing how I can go about this Thank You. And im sure i wont have the last word in this either.

[marinesos] since I have been there and done that, it is by no means nor by anyway my intentions to make or help anyone feel like "crap." I am a former Marine and have been in your shoes only much later with different personal family reasons! I just share the truth which at times does hurt and at times acts as a double edged sword, that's it, no more and no less. Why I ask the direct question as to why you screwed up is that it forms a better basis for various suggestions that may or may not be helpful to you in your sistuation! I do hope you well and that you do get your heart and head wired together! About my sleeping, I have not had a good night sleep since 1969; and furthermore, I keep having dreams and nightmares about "insomnia." Here is the GI Hotline Number just in case you do not have it which might be of help: 1-800-394-9544 and a private attorney's email in which he is a former Marine (Joseph Low IV) www.aggressivecriminaldefenselawyers.com
As Forrest Gump would say, "that's all I have to say about it." Shorty Out!

Thank you Shorty. I am the mother of marinesos. I appreciate that you are trying to help. Your experience and insight are valued. Everyone on this site has been very helpful the past few months as we have tried to deal with this. I have contacted the sgt. my son mentioned and it has been arranged for him to go back the first of June. We have asked questions here because the unkown is a bit scary for me and my son. My son knows what he has done is wrong and he is wanting to fix it. He knows that there is a price to pay for his bad judgement, young with a lot to learn. Again, I want to thank everyone for their great advice and words of encouragement. God bless.
