CG Discharge for not making weightWhat is the name of your state? CA Hello, My husband has 15 yrs 4 months of Active Duty servics in the U.S. Coast Guard. In May of 2007 the command weighed and measured his body fat along with everyone else on his ship. My husband was considered 25 lbs over the CG allowed weight limit or 5% body fat. He was told he had 5 months to loose the weight. According to the manual. The comman is suppose to make him a work out program, give him 1 hour 3x's a week...during the work day to work out, the Health Benefits Advisory on the ship is suppose ACCORDING to the manual, measure and weigh him weekly and monitor his weight loss. They are suppose to send him to a Dietician and check his blood to make sure he doesn't have any medical problems. THEY DID NONE OF THIS in those 5 months. My husband works his ass off to loose the weight. Oct. comes around and he's still over weight. Now they are processing him for discharge. He requested to have the pinch test done/calibration test and that's being done this coming Tuesday. There's no board, NOTHING for this discharge. He submited a statement and some LCDR makes the final decision without even seeing or talking to my husband. My husband has contacted his Congressman and we're waiting for return phone call. We're pissed because we have sacrificed 15.5 yrs for the CG. My husband has an excellent 15 yr record in the CG. He has NEVER been in trouble. He's a E-7 Chief Petty Officer. How can they just kick him out when the Command didn't do their job!?!?? Also we took the 15 YR. REDUX money. Can they come after us for that money? Please help! We have 4 children. My husband joined the CG when he was 17 yrs old. This has been our life! Thanks CGSpouse |

wowthat really sux. i was never in the CG but i do know that in the Army each command is to have an overweight program where they chart your progress, like you said, on a weekly basis. this program was lead by a Sr. NCO (E6 - E7) and the program is co-managed by the Operations and Training ppl in that unit under the Commander's authority and sponsorship. They didn't kid around. If your husbands command did a piss poor job managing this overweight program then they need to go. Like I said it was the Army, and these boys had progress charts and did all the overweight program stuff. Can't JAG help you guys? IG? those type of ppl? Anyways best of Luck! |

| Ok, my husband is getting an involuntary honorable discharge from the CG for being 5% over his allowed amount. Can anyone answer the question on seperation pay? According to this DOD 7000.14-R updated in Nov. 2005: http://usmilitary.about.com/gi/dyna...7a/07a%5F35.pdf . He is entitled to 1/2 seperation pay. According to this Commandant Instruction CI 1910.1 from 1992 it says he doesn't qualify. http://www.uscg.mil/directives/ci/1000-1999/CI_1910_1.pdf . But according to this law he does qualify. http://law.justia.com/us/codes/title10/10usc1174.html Last edited by CGSpouse; 11-14-2007 at 11:45 AM. |

| While he is still in, have him use the free legal services from JAG. Also, make sure he clearly asks for a thorough and understandable explanation of everything listed on his DD214, and separation papers.
