| Why don't you tell us why you want to know and what releases, if any, you have from the individual concerned, as that will directly impact whether you can get their information.

| individual wants to transport children for ncp visitation....ncp told me at one time that this person was discharged for mental issues. when i contested this person transporting the children he claimed that he never said that. so is there a way for me to legally find out if this person has been discharged from military and what for. |

| It would have to be done through the court system for them to decided whether or not you need that information or that information has a specific impact on your situation. Basically, no you cannot obtain that information through public channels. |

| A lot of information/records about military service is publicly available. You can file a Freedom of Information Act reqeust with the National Personnel Records Center to get portions of of their service record, including branches and dates of service, ranks and dates of rank, assignment and locations, duty status, photos, and perhaps most importantly transcripts of any court martials. That takes time, however, and may be more work than you'd like. It is possible the person filed their DD-214 with their county. Whether or not you can access it will vary greatly from place to place. Texas only recently made recorded DD-214s unavailable for public use, because of a scare over identity theft (DD-214s that had SSN numbers on them). |
