    Dishonorable Discharge

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I was dishonorably discharged from the USMC for popping on a drug test. I had popped once in training (MCT) and once again in the fleet where I had a general court martial and was awarded a DD It was a very bad time in my life where I had an addiction that I did not wish to confront. MY question is...is there a way to either have my discharge upgraded and rejoin the military again or any other way that I may try a different branch. This was over 3 years ago and have since then moved on with my life...but the one thing I will always be is a Marine and I wish I could finish what I started now that I have been clean and sober for 2 years now.

    Yes!

The same thing happened to my husband who was in the navy. He wanted to go into the reserves and they said they would take him back even with the dishonorable discharge. I am sure if you approached a recruiter they would work something out for you.

You will never get your discharge upgraded. You may be able to join the military again depending on your RE code. I am guessing that you received an RE-4, which will ban you from joining any branch of the military for the remainder of your natural life. Your RE code will not ever change and it is not possible to upgrade it.

Talk to a recruiter. They have a quota to fill and you have nothing to loose. If there is any way it can happen, a recruiter will know and will work to make it happen.
