Question

Forfeit GI Bill?

After serving 21 months active duty USAF and paying the necessary allotment for the GI Bill (which is indeed a paycut for someone just starting off meaning like almost a $400 paycheck every 2 weeks), is it justified that one forfeits that benefit for actions conducted off duty? Its not that the court martial demanded it and it was one of my punishments... ITs just that my first sergeant said I forfeited it. True? Why did I forfeit it? I paid into it, I qualified by serving more than the required 90 days, and I was banking on it to go to school. Anything I can do? By the way, where can I go to look into receiving my discharge papers? Help, please...

If you were court-martial-ed out, then contact your Attorney.

Is your case upon appeal? If so, you do have Appellate Representation,
and you can field all these unanswered question[s] to him or her.

Your category of discharge, anything other than honorable, disqualifies you from receiving the GI Bill. The new Chapter 33 GI Bill would have refunded your 1200 dollar "buy in" after the end of your service.

My appeal was denied...I had a good chance to go through the return to duty program since I was such an upstanding troop with no prior anything and I received numerous commendations, but the Convening Authority (Wing Commander) denied my request. I later found out that it was what he was obligated to do. He didn't know there was another option.

Is that really true about the refund? When I got out, I didn't even get bus fare. I had to pay for my own way back home. I had to drive with all my household goods and everything packed into a u-haul. Who should I ask about any of this? My former appellate counsel?

There is no refund for you. The military had no obligation to help a convicted thief get home.
