General under honorable conditions.

Im currently 2 years into a 4 year enlistment, I recently got an article 15 for fighting downtown with a civilian. Im stationed in North Dakota and the younger generation civilians are not to friendly with us here. Im from houston and hate this god forsaken cold place. I know a few guys who have had the balls to go to the commander and just tell him that they don't want to be in the military anymore. Im thinking of following in their foot steps. I want to get back in school and finish up my degree. The people i just spoke of all recieved general under honorable discharge. My question is if i get a general under honorable discharge what are my chances of an upgrade? Has anyone had a general under honorable discharge get upgraded? All I really care about is getting my GI bill. There is also one other plan I was thinking about. Going to mental health and telling them Im severly depressed I know a girl that got an honorable discharge for that. i only want to go that route if my chances of upgrading a GUH discharge are slim to none. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Don't count on getting an upgrade. It can happen, but not often. You should plan on being stuck with whatever they give you as you go out the door. As you are probably aware, GI bill benefits usually require an "honorable". My advice is stick it out. If you've made it two years with one article 15 you should probably be able to endure, and the benefits can be worth a mint.

As for 'faking' to try for a medical discharge, my advice is "don't". If the medical folks decide you are malingering you will be in real deep kimchi, and they are professionals who see that kind of stuff. It seems to a lot of people like it should be easy to fake - and a lot of people either get caught or don't get the diagnosis/outcome they want. If you're over halfway and have less than 2 years to go you should be able to stick it out.

Join the Air Force, see North Dakota! (I don't recall seeing any ads like that :-)

Thanks for the advice bro. I also forgot to mention that I have an upcoming deployment to balad that they are probably going to take away from me for the the fight. There is also this palace chase program where I can finish up my enlistment in the reserve. That might be taken away from me as well. I wouldn't be lying if I went to mental help and told them I was depressed.
