What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
TEXAS

OK SO HERE IS MY QUESTION.. I AM IN THE TEXAS ARMY NATIONAL GUARD AND I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT. I HAVE COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING BUT NOT AIT. I AM A CADET AT MY COLLEGE'S ROTC PROGRAM AND HAVE AN SMP (SIMULTANEOUS MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM) CONTRACT. I HAVE SO ATTEND DRILLS ONE WEEKEND A MONTH AND DO ROTC WHILE I'M IN COLLEGE. ONCE I GRADUATE AND PASS LDAC I WILL BE A 2ND LT. IF I AM ABLE TO COMMISSION. PROBLEM IS I CANT DEAL WITH THIS STRESS ANYMORE. I ORIGINALLY JOINED TO HELP PAY FOR SCHOOL BUT AS OF NOW I WOULD RATHER HAVE A CRAP LOAD OF STUDENT LOANS THEN HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE ARMY FOR ONE MORE DAY. I'M NOT A SOLDIER AND I'M TIRED OF TRYING TO MAKE MYSELF PRETEND TO BE ONE. THIS LIFE IS JUST NOT MEANT FOR SOME PEOPLE AND I CANT DO IT ANYMORE. ANYWAYS, I'M LOOKING FOR A WAY OUT. I'M THINKING OF JUST GOING AWOL BUT I WANT TO KNOW THE
CONSEQUENCES FIRST AND MAYBE LOOK AT BETTER OPTIONS THAN THAT. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE? THANK YOU SO MUCH.What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

What stress are you talking about? Boot camp was fun when I went through it, but I was prepared for it (and the best movie to see how it is is Full Metal Jacket).

How you can get out? Well, you have not gone through AIT (and I have no idea how many months you have been in the guard & gotten free college) so getting out should be a little bit tougher than washing out of boot camp.

I would not recommend going AWOL ~~ you risk, albeit slightly, a dishonorable discharge ~~ something to avoid at all costs.

I am not that familiar with ROTC programs though ... contact a lawyer to see your financial & legal issues involved. You may find that you want to change your mind.

And yes, the military is a socialist system & it sucks. I did 1 stint & laughed when they asked me to re-enlist citing the socialist ideology as the main reason.

OP, please disregard Cap..well, he couldn't even manage to spell "Captain" correctly (of course we TOTALLY believe it was deliberate. Totally).

Anyway, please disregard his posts.

Await responses from those who know of what they speak. :)

Sometimes... no advice is more useful than incorrect advice.

OP, I concur with Pro - ignore SlapHappyCappy.

Actually, very sound advice was offered: to disregard someone who has little to no credibility on the boards.

There really isn't a quick fix. You could fake headaches for a few years, develop a medical history. Army doc's can't prove or disprove a headache.

I'm unsure how you could apply this to YOUR situation with ROTC, but another option is failure to adjust to military lifestyle. Generally comes from the PSYCH-O and carries with it some level of dissociative disorder/ clinical diagnosis which will limit future employment options.

You made a choice. Suck it up, buttercup. The benefits far outweigh whatever "stress" you have from being a fulltime student, not having to worry about tuition, and being groomed to be a leader in THE greatest fighting force in the world.
