Guide to getting your discharge at Ft. SillWhat is the name of your state? Cali Hey guys I'm back. I turned myself in on a wednesday to Ft. Irwin in southern california and thursday morning I was on a plane to ft. sill. An MP picked me and another guy up from lawton airport and was very cool. It turns out we were from the same area of cali (LA). Anyways he told us we would be there for about a week then be gone. He was right. I spent a few days more than a week being gone since i didnt turn myself in on a monday or tuesday but it was alright i expected it. Arrival at PCF: You read some rights then they take anything with a picture ID on it or credit/debit cards. and inventory anything you give them. They allow you to keep 20 dollars and pictures of loved ones and such. You get your room and linen and such. Theres a big closet with ACU's (they stopped BDU's a few weeks ago) and every type of clothing we were issued in the army. You a free to get anything whenever you need to change or shower. Escorts: All of the escorts are retired military are are very cool. If anyone knows who im talking about they know. Mrs. Jones is probably the coolest along with Mr. Hemple. The only one that can be a dick is Mr. Mucker hes retired marine but for the most part he is cool. just respect them as much as you can by saying sir or mam or by their name. Daily Schedule: You wake up at 5am on week days and 6 am on weekends. for the most part free time is from 7 to 9:45 pm and you can watch tv or use the pay phone or smoke and chill on the bleachers. Now you wake up and conduct personal hygene and then barracks maintence for a little while. breakfast is at 7:45 and you get to sit on the bleachers for about 2 hours before hand. Get used to sitting on those bleachers alot and doing alot of details. They even tell you they have to keep you busy by giving you bull**** details to do. Ill say it again theres gonna be ALOT of details or sitting around on the benches smoking and stuff. I can guarentee if nothing goes wrong with your paperwork and you get there on a monday or tuesday your going home by friday. Now possibly if you get there wednesday early before lunch you might go home friday. First thing you will do is get in-processed and read by the first sarge. Hes gonna ask you if you know what your getting a chapter 10 and your gonna sign it. Next day usually thursday you'll go get your ID picture taken and then do ACAP. Its just to help you get a job in the civilian world after your discharge. Friday you do JAG and they explain what your getting and stuff. Basically your getting an Other Than Honorable in-lieu of a court-martial because it takes to much time and money to do that to the 40+ AWOL's they get each week. After JAG you'll go to lunch and then once you get back you change clothes and they hand you your leave form and ID card and Usually will release you at 3 pm. Sometimes National Guards may get stuck an extra week because of a few papers their state needs to send. They only release people on fridays which is why you stay a whole extra week. So I would suggest National Guards to show up sunday or monday. Permanent party is also a little difficult. Alot of the guys I saw that were already attached to units had to go back to them but you may get lucky. Oh and if you went to Ft. Watchuika or however you spell that. Basically if you were Intel your probably not getting discharged. Oh and if you refuse to sign your chapter 10 and try to stay in your gonna be there for a month or 2. I met a guy that was doing that and I can tell it would have sucked. Anyways all the escorts will tell you it will only be a week if everything goes smooth. Dont **** around and you wont get in trouble. The most they do is give you extra long fireguard anyways or take away free time. Also for those that are dirty and wouldnt pass a piss test dont worry they dont give one unless you request a physical during out processing. and that would hold you up anyways so just say no. Anyways If I think of anything else ill put it up later. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. Its such a huge relief to get this done with and trust me its worth it. For those of you that smoke or dip, bring alot of nicotine. I dont and its crazy how people fiend for that stuff lol. Sorry about all the puncuation errors I never was one to take my time typing. |

| You can only turn yourself in at Ft. Sill if you were in basic training or were based out side the US, right? |

Buzzzzz... Wrong again. You can turn yourself in at any military installation.

If you are in the Army and you are AWOL you should make an informed decision. Check things out for yourself and don't rely on heresay. Last edited by m martin; 01-08-2009 at 08:13 PM. |
