Is he AWOL

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? KY

My brother went AWOL about 2 years ago. He has been arrested for other things. While he was in jail he told them that he was AWOL. They told him that they could not find anything on him. He went back to Fort Hood where he was stationed at and left there after a day or two. When he came back he told me that he was being processed out. He showed me where they are still paying him but holding his checks. He dont really know what he should do at this point. Any help??

He needs to be there in order to outprocess. Send him back.

That is, unless they told him they were retaining him (the real reason he left in this case), but I doubt it.

He can't just be "processed out". He just doesn't want to deal with the process... Which will most likely start with a field grade article 15 (putting him on extra duty for 45 days amongst other things) while they start his chapter paperwork. It will take about 2-3 months for him to be done.
