Question

I need help with AWOL situation!!

What is the name of your state? Ohio

Okay so here it is, my husband just recently went AWOL. He was only in basic training. He was only there for a few weeks and he hated it from the beginning. He was at Fort Benign GA. I was just seeing if anyone here would know if I could get in trouble with him staying with me? I have read some of the other post related to this. So does he have to go back to Fort Benign to turn him self in or can he go to Fort Sill? After he is dropped? So we are calling the GI Hotline on Monday to get info from them. I am just worried about this whole situation so if anyone that has gone through this recently have any advice. Please let me know the right things and the wrong. I just dont want to get in trouble myself. Hopefully someone knows. Thanks you again.

It is good that you will call the GI Hotline Monday. After he is UA past 30 days, he
then will be changed from UA to a DESERTER. If this happens, then you could be
charged with harboring a fugitive, and a few other things, though unlikely, still it is
possible!

Don't Sing

The only time I've heard of a family member getting in trouble in your situation, wasn't because he lived with them but because they filed a false report of a faked mugging to help him get released from the Army. (He shot himself in the foot) That's a charge of Obstruction of Justice. Remember, You are under no obligation to turn him in! Go to this website, scroll down about half way and find "Recruitment." http://www.nlgmltf.org/youth.html#CHARLIE
Under that you'll see a yellow box entitled "I Ain't Singing Charlie".
Chances of authorities coming to your door are really slim, but just in case, prepare answers to when was the last time you..? Just DON'T lie. They'd need a warrant to search or come in.
Really, though, not your biggest worry. Do recommend turning himself in as soon as he ready. GI Rights will help with that. Good luck!

He can go to Fort Sill or Fort Knox. Which ever one is closest to you. I don't know what RMC is either.

My fiance was awol for almost a year, you will not get in trouble. Anything else you hear is just scare tactics. The military likes to use them a lot.

Been in BCT for 3 weeks... Left because he hated it?

Duh.

BCT is not for him to enjoy. It is supposed to be one of the most challenging experiences in his life.

Give my thanks to the DS' at Ft Benning for doing the job RIGHT!

oky

Oky thanks to everyones response very helpful. And to you know who its not that he could not handle it physically he could not handle it mentally. He could not stand being away form his son. And also he did not want to go fight in a stupid war that makes no sense. But anyways. I finally got to call the GI Rights people and hopefully all this will be over sooner then later. I have seen tho there are a ton of people that have went throgh this. And I am hopeing for a good out come.

I never said the challenge was purely physical. I stand by my original post... Weed 'em out early before they become a problem to my Soldiers out on the battlefield.

Be careful what you wish for? Think before acting?

In this case, I would not recommend returning to training... That's the type of person that will end up getting more troops killed.
