You do realize that this will be on your permanent record, right? No one can tell you what base to turn yourself in at.

Just turn yourself in, it will look much worse if you are dragged there under a warrant.

In fact, you are so astonishingly correct in this matter, it will not surprise us one bit if you are offered a generous settlement, because, by golly, that’s just how it should be.

i'm awol and need advice

Although different groups (GI RIGHTS, FEd. Deserter Hotline, and posters on this forum) will make projections on how long it will take to outprocess you, there are NO guarantees. NONE. PERIOD. The longest I have heard of it taking is about 3 weeks, but that is only based on about a dozen people.

My advice is to call the MPs, ask for the number for the FEDERAL DESERTER HOTLINE ( I believe its located at Sill) and they will tell you what you should bring with you. They also will probably make some sort of projection of how long it will take to outprocess you, (and that is assuming you are discharged....which you cannot count on 100% due to the Army's "re-hab" program)

I also suggest you search this site for AWOL advice, tossing out the rants and raves and the political soapbox stuff and look for postings by BADAPPLE. He is a JAG officer and gives straight up facts. There is some good info posted by him RECENTLY under a heading titled something like HUSBAND AWOL NEED ADVICE...poster is called JOSH"S WIFE. Read what BADAPPLE says there. He is knowedgeable. I think it is currently located at the top of page 2 under military law.

Turning yourself in is the ONLY realistic option. You make the right choice when you do so.
