What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CO

All--

If someone is serving in a MOS and major command that requires a security clearance and that clearance is suspended while the soldier is deployed, what happens? Does the soldier need to be sent back? I would think so, because they are no longer qualified to serve in the MOS or command.

Thank you in advance - please let me know of any further facts required.

They would likely be relieved of command and reassigned. If they had knowingly taken command with their clearance suspended, they might be court martialed.

Hi and thank you for your response.

The soldier in question is not in command - he is in a major command that requires all of its soldiers to have a clearance. At the time of deployment, he had apparently been granted a clearance which was suspended once he was deployed. Since he cannot hold the MOS without a clearance, and cannot be a member of the major command, what happens? Does the military need to send him home and REFRAD him? How could he possibly remain in the overall command without one of the prerequisites to be in the command in the first place?

Why would he need to be relieved from duty? He can be reassigned to another duty station not requiring the security clearance. He needs to notify his superior ASAP.

Issues with a military clearances go through the command first. If there is a revoked clearance they will know it before the one who had it knows it was revoked.

It's not like a driver license suspension where an employer may not be aware of it until you tell them.

The military has been doing this a long time and has procedures in place to handle any jobs where someone lost their clearance required for the job.

Without knowing what his command or MOS is, or the reason the clearance was lost, there is not much room to guess what might or might not happen.

Typically the command will put the member in a temporary position (i.e. Broom Closet or Managing a Fish Tank) until the security clearance is resolved. They can request an exception (which usually results in an interview). Each command has different procedures, this happens a lot and they are usually patient but you may be reassigned or retrained if you cannot get your clearance back in a timely manner.

There are too many variables as well. Not sure based on what you said how his security clearance was revoked. For example, if a Commander revokes it, he would have to restore it. There are a dozen reasons why it could be revoked and those reasons affect how it could be restored.

Basically tell your buddy to be patient and sit tight.
