Lieing to MEPSWhat is the name of your state? MI When I was a kid I grew up wanting to be in the military. When I was in High School I found out I was medically disqualified due to Asthma & Psoriasis. Every Recruiter I talked to said that there wasn't anything I could do no matter what branch of the military I joined. Years Later I decided to look it up again, and I found out that I can get a waiver for Psoriasis as long as it didn't stop me from wearing a uniform & for Asthma as long as it was a childhood thing (this changed in 2004 for the Army). So I talked with a Recruiter, and let him know the deal. I told him I wanted to go to OCS ASAP and that I was planning on 20 years or more of service. I took the ASVAB and then scheduled a time to go to MEPS. The night before I was do to go to MEPS my recruiter sat me down and handed me a form. He said "this is important. What's said in this room is between me and you. When you go to MEPS there is only going to be two people that know anything. Your answer to everything is no." And then pointed out the ONE place he wanted me to say YES... I asked him about the Asthma, Wisdom Teeth, Tonsils... he said "your best answer is no" We had a talk about it, and I am uncomfortable with "Fibbing", but I took his advise since he was the expert. Like an idiot I researched it AFTER the fact and on the internet it goes both ways. Some people say DISCLOSE EVERYTHING and some people say DISCLOSE NOTHING. I talked with several Active and inactive duty members (all freinds/family) and got mixed responses. One person even went so far as to say: There is the Truth, the truth, and then there is the truth... I feel like an idiot telling them I never had Lasik, tonsils & wisdom teeth removed, when any competent medical examiner knows different (and yet they said nothing). And then not getting a waiver for child hood Athsma when I am already getting one for Psoriasis? I have no trusted course of action here... and the last thing I want is to get kicked out because of some bull that could have been prevented. |

| So, are you in boot camp now or active duty? If not, then personally I would take all your papers with you back to MEPS, and respectfully request to speak with the Officer in charge and lay it out to him or her; and then give full disclosure of "TRUTH," and correct anything omitted with the Truth. | I am not in Boot Camp or active duty yet. I Have NOT gotten my paper yet. I am still waiting for my first Waiver. So I will go back to MEPS and talk to the officer in charge and explain everything. But I actually like my recruiter. I am hoping I can do this with out anything happening to him. |

| Your recruiter wants you to lie about having Lasik, having wisdom teeth, and having tonsils? What kind of moron is he? You are correct that any medical officer can easily see that these things are/aren't present. Even if you managed to slide by MEPS, I don't see how you would get through boot camp. When I went through, wisdom teeth were treated like communist infiltrators and our dentistry was more thorough than the security clearance process. An opthamologist sees lasik and he is going to expect to see all sorts of flags/notices on your record. Are you going to tell him/her that you didn't know that your eyes had been operated on? Few things will get you in Dutch out in "the fleet" like lying to and/or jacking around with medical. I was at a major command where the highest number of NJP referals came from the dentist. He only told you once to schedule a procedure (like wisdom teeth). If your next annual checkup came around and you hadn't done so, it was XO screening for you. (the matter was dropped there if you complied, but believe me making it to the XO is no fun). So, in summary, if you are going to lie at least don't make it over something so obvious like claiming to have organs that aren't there.... BTW, you probaby won't get anywhere near the "officer in charge" of the MEPS. The person you will probably be sent to see will be a civilian employee of the OIG (Office of Inspector General). Don't worry about your recruiter. He/She knows the rules and they have made their own bed. At the same time, don't be surprised if this recruiter you "kind of like" flat out calls you a liar and wingnut. |

Thank youI talked to the recruiter, since I figured he would get a call any way... Once he knew I was going to do it anyway he said to gather my medical records so I could supply them. I Just don't think he wanted to go and get them himself ![]() But anyway, I have all the records ordered and have a meeting with a military Doctor pending so I can get my Waiver. Thank you for the help!!! Doing it the right way might take longer but I'm sure it's better. |
