medical discharge

Utah
My son is in the CG (not in Utah) and was diagnosed and treated for testicular cancer. He is back to work, light duty, and now has been told by the base doc that she is recommending a medical discharge. I am wondering what to expect and what can be done. He does not want to be discharged. Thanks for any info.
