Medical discharge? maybe? What is the name of your state? TN hi i have a question about a possible medical discharge. i am in the national guard. i recently did a work physical for ajob and they found a heart murmur. i frequently have sever chest pains some to the point of passing out. usually when i have them i cant breathe and have a lot of pressure on my chest. sometimes i lose my strenght and can't even stand. i was looking at possible diagnosis and i found a couple that fit my symptoms.....one of them is relevant because it says that it is caused by rheumatic fever which i had when i was 7. i remember when i enlisted that they had to do a lot of paper work on my rheumatic fever. well my mom also has a condition called microvalve prolapse which she says her symptoms are similar to mine. my dad has also had open heart surgery. i was wondering if this will lead to a medical discharge. also i also have a shoulder problem. my labrum in my right shoulder is detached and i am gonna have to have surgery when i am "ready". at least thats what my doctor said. please if anyone can tell me anything i will be greatful. |

| Do you WANT to be discharged? Certainly, a heart condition caused by rheumatic fever can be grounds for a discharge, but not one that gets you any compensation or VA disability rating. Your shoulder might be another matter. If your condition is service-related and even after surgery it limits your ability to perform your duties...AND..you cannot be retrained for a duty that is compatible with the limitation....you might qualify for a medical discharge. But, you'd better be ready for a painful operation and months of therapy and limited mobility. Not something you'd want to do just to get a discharge! |

He just had a physical, (Civilian, as I read this), yet he has had all of these symptons, obviously for a while. Also, why is he looking up his own diagnosis? He just had his physical?

In fact, you are so astonishingly correct in this matter, it will not surprise us one bit if you are offered a generous settlement, because, by golly, that’s just how it should be. ListenThis can lead to a discharge, but it can not be a medical. A medical is only if you have the problem due to the military. If they give you a medical they will have to pay you, therefore they want it to be government fault. |
