Military, International privacy lawsIm currently serving in Iraq. I was dating a girl from Finland for a while until she recently broke up because of the long distance. I had found out that she wasnt be totally honest about her feelings for me. I tried to get her to stay with me but she would agree. In return for her dishonesty and unwillingness to agree to fix the relationship I emailed some explicit photos we had taken to her family and her bosses. Now her dad tells me he will report this to the finnish police and other authorities. Can I get in trouble for this while im here in Iraq? Can they pull me out of here to go handle this in finland? |

| I'm afraid to ask just how "explicit" these photos were (or how old she was when they were taken). The U.S. military could prosecute you under the UCMJ if there is any criminal content or if you violated any of a plethora of rules and regulations concerning communications, or under the general article. If there is simply some kind of civil suit filed in Finland you could always ask for time off to go fight it --figure the odds of the military giving you leave. Unless you could find and afford a Finish attorney to defend you in Finland you would probably lose a default judgment. I don't know if there is any European-wide enforcement mechanism. Is there a Finnish law forum? |
