My husband went AWOL and want to get him discharged ASAPWhat is the name of your state? IA please help me with getting my husband discharged. he went awol on august 3rd, 2007 due to the Recruiter saying he was undeployable in Active Duty same as he has been in National Guard. That is the only reason he signed the Active Duty contract. After in processing into his Unit, he found out that he was deployable and that they would be receiving orders within a month to leave to Iraq. They were also going to change his MOS from a Tank Mechanic to a Gunner, which he is half blind and can not shoot very well. When he found out that he was going to be receiving orders to deploy, he got really emotionally unstable, against the war entirely, did not believe in risking his life for another country. He could not handle it, he asked for Permissive TDY several times and got the run around. Supposed to be deploying in a month but they wouldnt even let him come home to see his family, move them there, or say goodbye. My husband dont care what kind of discharge he gets, just wants out and the quickest he can as he has a good job and dont want to jepordize it. We have no money for attorneys. He and I could not emotionally handle him being gone for 15 months. He was in the National Guard for 4 years before going Active Duty in the Army, he was still inprocessing into his Unit when he left. He could not pass his PT's, in fact he had one right before he went to the recruiter and failed it. The recruiter made up a new one saying he passed it and put it in his file and threw the old one away. Since he was inprocessing at a Unit will he be shipped back to it?? If so then how long will all this take?? Should he wait til his Unit leaves for deployment to do all of this cause they will try to make him go then. I read you have to have a packet from the GI Hotline...what packet is that?? How do I find out if he is DFR and has a warrant for his arrest without them finding me or him??We just got married and want to continue with adding to our family as well but dont want to til we know he will never be taken away from his family. ANY advice you can give will help. Please help us. Thank you all so much. |

| My son just got back from Fort Sill. He said that there were all sorts of guys there who had been in the military from 3 months to 4 years. He also said that there were guys from the National Guard there. This one man who was there had been AWOL for 21 years. Almost everyone got other than honorable discharges. The number that you call to find out if your husband is dropped from the rolls is...... 502-626-3711. |

| For starters, who would ever believe a 63E (M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank System Mechanic) would be non-deployable in ANY unit? He would have to be qualified on the M88 Tracked Recovery Vehicle and go recover broken tanks. Second, a "gunner" is just his team position in the tank, not a different MOS. You gotta defend yourself when recovering a broken vehicle... Since he was not in the unit long enough for tracked recovery school, he gets to be the vehicle's gunner for now (all Soldiers are trained on how to shoot). He will OJT the recovery training downrange. Third. Why come on Active Duty if you KNEW that you were to weak of mind to handle him deploying? You may be able to BS your family and friends back home, but there are too many seasoned Soldiers here to run this crap through. Now, try posting again, but tell us what's REALLY going on. FACTS only, no blubbery "woe is me" whiny crap. No "so-and-so said this", but what is in a WRITTEN CONTRACT he signed. AD or ARNG... What kind of "Soldier" can't pass a PT Test? 40 pushups, 52 situps, and 2 miles in 16:30 (that's the most he could be required at the minimum of 21 years of age since he has 4 years NG time). I think he didn't want to pass it...

| well talk about you ask for advice and you got attitude from some guy who thinks he knowsit all....so everything you wrote was a waste of time for you cause it didnt help at all and made me understand why people cant stand people in the military...they think they know it all and are jerks, have no heart, and care less about families.....exactly why we dont want to be part of the military anymore**************so first of all you might want to get his MOS right there smarty, its 63A and no he was not deploying in a Mechanic Platoon. He was not a Gunner ina Tank, he was going to be put on a Truck with a Gun, he was going to be doing Convoy Missions....BIG DIFFERENCE I WOULD SAY..No need for your replies they dont help anyone much. Second**************We went Active Duty as he was told he was non deployable same as National Guard because he is half blind, cant see out of right eye. obviously you didnt read that part....it was supposed to be in the contract but it wasnt. the contract was all sorts of messed up. couldnt get anything right on there. Third he didnt pass his PT's cause he couldnt make the run cause he smokes too much....And we wouldnt have went active duty if we would havent been lied to about him not being deployed**************.We just wanted to make a better life for ourselves and our son not watch our husband get ripped away and thrown into the middle of a war that he doesnt believe in anyway**************.and once again you obviously never read my thread, he is HALF BLIND therefore HE CANT SEE TO SHOOT...kinda have to be able to see ya know and tried with the other hand and eye but cant do it. so to be screw around and not be able to come back to get your family, say goodbye, or see them is messed up. then they were going to be leaving within a month.....you just dont understand cause your too busy putting people down and being a jerk to open your eyes and help. this is a free advice forum not a think oyu know it all and put people down forum**************but cdonal thank you so much for your advice.. how is your son doing now that he dont have to watch over his back and fear being taken away again???? did anyone there miss movement which means not deploy over seas when they got orders...but my husband hadnt had orders yet though???? cause the GI Hotline is telling us that he will be sent back to his unit even though he goes to Ft. Sill or Ft. Knox and we dont want that. We want him in and out so he can come home...he has a good job and he is the financial supporter. Which is why he hasnt turned himself in. why do they have to wait til they are dropped from the rolls?? i dont understand that part...any info would be helpful thank you |

| I shot competitively throughout school. After experiencing an eye injury, I was forced to switch shooting eyes which required new equipment from rifle on up. Plus learn to pull the trigger with my left instead of the right. Before the switch I was second in state and after I managed 10th in a national competition. All it takes is training. I have a cousin whose MOS was tank welder (or something). He served out his AD and was recalled in individual ready reserve because they mistakening believed his MOS was something else. Of course, he served as a truck driver. |

| fortuneately for you it worked....he has been trying that for years and still cant manage it....weird but he wanted to make a career out of the military until all this happened....he tried hard to pass his PT's but just couldnt get that run. tried several times to quit smoking and couldnt.....couldnt switch eyees to shoot......he actually wanted to retire from the military someday but now his views have all changed...i now have a great understanding by meeting families of deployed soldiers what they all go through and i have sympathy for them. but thank you for your reply |

| If he were truly "half blind", how did he pass the eye exam at MEPS? Once again, try to give us the facts. Try to write in coherent sentences. And 63A? Oh, heaven help me... I am behind the times. The MOS designator changed from 63E a little while back. It's now called the "Abrams System Maintainer". Hmmm... Still the M1A1 Main Battle Tank, so I don't see the difference. ![]() Now, show me an enlistment contract that has EVER had "non-deployable" anywhere in it... It wasn't supposed to be there because we use standard contracts (google "DD 4/1"). You are still full of crap. Once again, give us the facts, present them at a middle school level or higher, and leave the emotions out of it. Maybe then we can advise you.

| My son said that there was several guys that were stationed in Korea and they left from there and went AWOL. He said that one of the guys had to stay in the brigg for 30 days and then was discharged with an OTH and the other two were discharged within a week with an OTH as well. Just make sure that you call that number and ask if he has a warrant yet and call a couple more times to make sure that is the truth. Then he can turn himself in at Fort Sill. If he goes before he is dropped from the rolls and before the federal warrant is issued he will be sent back to his unit. |

| The meps office didn't do an eye exam, he failed his in the National Guard and was then considered non-deployable. They tried deploying him then and couldn't as he was non-deployable due to his blindness. it was supposed to be in the contract but it wasnt. the contract was all sorts of messed up. couldnt get anything right on there. It never said in the contract that he was Non-deployable, the recruiter told me and my husband to our face. Nowhere did I say they put it in his contract. I think you are just here to be little people not help them DRTDVL. I dont think that I would want to take advice from you anyway. Thank you so much for your advice cdonal. I hope that everything goes right for us. We need to save money now so that we can get him there and back. Any new Information that would help us cdonal would be so appreciated Thank you so much for all your help. If I have any more questions I will sure know where to go. God Bless |

| Hello! I am DRTDEVL's wife and I try to explain some of the questions you and him were having! 1. When your husband is half blind he should have had a medical board either discharging him from the NG or reclassify him. When neither of these things happened that your husband was told wrong by his NG unit and not the recruiter. It has to be in his medical records that he is half blind. 2. When he reported to his new unit and there where already under deployment orders your husband is not AWOL but is called a DESERTER which in legal terms is treated different. Once he reports to any military installation no matter where is send back to his unit and most likely will be put in the brig till either he gets a Courts-martial or other avenues the command there is using to handle DESERTERS. 3. You said that your Husband is the sole bread winner of the family. No I got a question does your husband at this time work anywhere or are you still getting a paycheck from the military. If you still getting a paycheck from the military be prepared that you and your spouse have to pay all the money back he was not account for. In other words if he decides not to report back and you still getting paid, be prepaid to get a nice notice in the mail that you are owing the Federal Government money and they are taking your Tax Return till the bill is paid up. You as well as your husband are responsible for this. Also if you and your son receive any medical care and you using tricare. You are maybe responsible for paying back that expense as well. I leave you with these few answers at this time. If you would like to talk to me on a more one and one, I will gladly to this. I am not here to judge you or your husband; I simply want to help you. If you want my contact info just reply to this. Snoopy

| they have it in his medical file that he has an eye injury and couldnt pass the vision exams. Also, he didnt have deployment orders when he started inprocessing, he was jsut told they would be deploying by others in his Platoon...Then when his Sgt. called me he said that he would be getting orders to Deploy the following week after he had already been gone a week. So no he didnt have them at the time he left...He isnt getting paid from the military and only did once since he left... He has a civilian job**************What line of work does your husband do that he knows so much??? well it was alot nicer talking to you than your husband no offense....yes i would love to talk to you one on one as too many people want to down grade and judge us and we dont need that..thank you for your info |

| If he didn't have deployment orders, he would not be leaving next month. He needs to learn how to ignore the "rumor mill". We have our marching orders... We leave in MARCH 08. That's how far in advance rotational deployment orders are issued. As for what I do? I am currently the Operations NCO in a Forward Support Battalion. I have served as a Heavy Equipment Transport Operator, a Recruiter, a Squad Leader, an Instructor, and a Deployment Processing Operations NCO... I would be one to know the answers, as well as the one to smell BS and incomplete stories when I come across them.
