Need help fast!!!What is the name of your state? Texas I'm a SSG in the US Army. I have 72 days left until I ETS. I will have five years of service on May 31, 2006. I have every intension on getting out of the Army and going back to school. My unit is suppose to be going to Japan. They are trying to involuntarily extend me for two years to go to Japan with them. Is there any way I can just ride my last couple of months out and get out or do I have to sign a Declination Continuing Service Statement? Please give me some advice on what to do. I want to just get out when my time is up in June and be done with the Army. Please help fast. |

| And thus is the problem with the current promotion system... You have hard working NCO's such as myself, stuck at E-5, over 10 years, due to lack of promotion potential in their chosen MOS, and you have kids being promoted to E-5, E-6, and E-7 in other MOS's way too early (to maintain CMF balance). Why would a SSG want out so badly? What kind of example does this set for your troops? And WTF is wrong with Japan????? I personally hope you ARE stop-lossed, and then administratively reduced to E-5 or E-4 under the QMP! Maybe when you have matured enough to accept the responsibility of being a SSG they will allow you to progress to your position again. Before you spout about what you have done, I'll fill you in on myself. I have 11.75 years service, I am an 88M, E-5(P) with 713 points, I have been around the globe and back several times, I have served as a Recruiter, been a Team Leader, Squad Leader, Assistant Platoon Sergeant, Assistant Recruiting Station Commander, and Recruiting Station Commander. I am currently serving in 1AD in an MSB HET Platoon, and shall become a Truckmaster within the next 3 years. I WILL make the points this summer (adding more as we speak), and will be a first look E-7/E-8/E-9. If I were your CSM, I'd make an example out of you REAL quickly. And, to answer your question... A DEC Statement will not help you here. It's called an INVOLUNTARY extention for a reason. ![]()

You are obligated for 8 years when you signed the dotted the line and inprocessed. Maybe you thought you had 5 years (or 4), but you signed for 8. At the time, you probably thought it was going to be 4 or 5 active, the rest IRR or reserves. But they can involuntarily extend you. I'd make sure, if I were you, that you don't sign any other enlistment agreements or "re-up," but I'd finish out this enlistment (including involuntary extensions) and press on. The DCCS isn't used except when you refuse to re-enlist.
