My husband served in the Army for four years and was honorably discharged. We got to use his GI Bill and his VA Loan. A year and a half later he decided that he wanted to join the Army Reserve. He signed up this past February. In May he got a job offer in New Jersey but would have to spend 3 months traveling for training. He signed out of his unit and they told him he was fine as long as he found a unit in New Jersey when he settled down there. Now they are saying he has too many unauthorized absences and they are going to kick him out with a Other Than Honorable Discharge. What happens to our benefits if this happens? We have our benefits because he was in the Army before not because of the Army Reserve. Will we lose our GI Bill? He never even got his sign on bonus from the Reserve. Is there any way to upgrade and how difficult is it to do? | |
