| OTH--Paying the price everyday What is the name of your state? NY Enlisted Army 6-76 everything good till 2-77 Came down with Guillain Barre Syndrome ended up in Boston VA clinic (base hospital not equipted for my condition) Became totally Paralyzed --was on a ventilater(iron lung) they had to tape my eyes shut at night was on a feeding tube all thanks to the Swine flu shot the Army pumped into us in the fall of 76. GBS is a condition that paralyzes you but the good thing is it can reverse at any stage before it kills you--in my case it turned for the good at deaths doorstep so I had to learn to walk again--thank god my legs came back, the doctors were not sure if they would --I turned 20 in that VA no family to speak of around they were back home in NY. The illness was bad enough but the treatment was at the VA was horrific--I got Gangrene around my Thrach site and I was cursed at for messing my bed theatened to be thrown out the window so anyway I was released back to my base 6-77 and put in a medical hold unit--The MEB found me unfit physically and pychratically--so I waited for the PEB--in the mean time My wife left me for someone while I was paralyzed--so I tried to get time off(Leave) from the hold unit so I could go home an try to mend my marriage an see family after my near death experience but the Army did not comply so I went AWOL from the hold unit for 5 days and was given a artical 15 upon my return--so I waited for the PEB--in 7-77 they came up with a decision to keep me on active duty with restrictions(Desk Job) I was pissed and not up to going on in the Army in my condition so I went AWOL again this time a couple of months before I tried to committe Suicide after finding out I had veneral warts around my anus (Yes I was sexually abused in the VA also) I turned myself in--was taken to fort dix and given a OTH discharge. So after time I regained most but not all my muscles and went on with life---BUT after almost 30 years I started to have weakness and had to see many doctors before being Diognosed with POST Guillain Barre Syndrome--Same Symptoms as Post Polio so I had to give up my job I had for 23 years and now I'm on SSDI at 49 in a wheel chair-using a CPAP to keep me breathing at night having to chew my food real good so I don;t choke from my weakened throut muscles---Even thou my condition is service connected all I got from the VA is A wheel chair and a electric hospital bed--NO MONEY--No adaptive Van--No Adaptive Houseing Grants--No life ins.--and my other conditions from the post GBS like PTSD--Liver Diease--all because of the OTHER THAN HONORABLE Discharge Boy did I ever mess up!!!! So now I wonder how my family is going to to get by without me some day my youngest is a boy 7yrs--dauther15 no retirement benifits or college for the kids--Boy I hope some of you out there that read this think how much a OTH discharge can mess u up--I'll be paying with my body and soul every day till I die-- |
