| | | Question about separtion from the army due to weight. I'm from Florida thought that doesn't apply here.
I am being threatened with separation due to inability to maintain the army weight standards. What kind fo discharge would this be and what would happen to my GI Bill? |

The discharge shouldn't be bad. At worst a General under honorable conditions. Assuming that being overweight is your only problem
Good luck |

So you will probably get an honorable discharge, meeting that requirement for MGIB benefits. The question now is: How long will you have served on active duty when you are discharged? There are service requirements to get the benefit as well as the requirement of an honorable discharge. |

Thank you for the answers I appreciate it. | You need 3 years.
I have a question though. Does his delayed enlistment time (if any) count?
Good luck

Unless it takes the military 7 months to process you out, you will likely fall short. I'm not certain what current policies are, but it used to be that sometimes, particularly if you were serving overseas on on sea duty, they'd just flag you "can not re-enlist" or at least wait until the end of a scheduled tour before processing you out. I don't know what the current policies are, however. (and, it used to be that if you failed PT testing as well as weight standards, they were much quicker to act).
There is a fair chance that the current MGIB program penalties would be found unconstitutional, but no one has yet taken the matter to court as far as I know. (you can read the March 2004 "Army Lawyer" for an interesting article on the subject) |

| | | If you want to stay in, get with one of your battle buddies and hit the gym - put some iron in your diet! You might be heavy now but it doesn't take much to lose a few pounds. Pick up FM 21-20, there's good information in there. Also, did you check to see if your command has a weight control program or is there something through MWR? Just a few thoughts. |

Try my dietiing technique. I eat whatever I want and spend 2 hours a day at the YMCA lifting swimming and running. Its not very scientific but it gets the job done. I write this while eating a box of carmel corn and its making my keyboard sticky lol
Good luck. munch munch munch... | |
