RE Up with Re-3 Seperation Code KFF

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Carolina

I have a question regarding service eligibility. About ten years ago I was young dumb 18 year old in Infantry OSUT for the army. During this time I had a gallstone attack and was sent home on leave post surgery. I had a hard time as I had only joined the infantry since I had a GED and at the time it was the only thing the army offered me. I desperately needed out of town. I had never even been in the hospital before and after surgery I was not in the right mindset. Instead of going back I went Awol for 30 days and was discharged OTH.
I instantly realized I made a huge mistake and went about trying to change my discharge. I was successful and changed to General Dischage Re-3 seperation code KFF.
I had turned my life around since then and discovered my calling. I went on to college, became a paramedic and registered nurse and now I am in graduate school. I have always felt the call to service I was just in the wrong field and made a poor decision. I am now seriously wanting to pay back my gratitude and join the reserves as a nurse. Unfortunately once recruiters find out about the re-3 they seem to not want to hassle and wont give me any info. I hear about people getting back in with re-4's and OTH. Im not sure if this is because Nurse is a commissioned position or not. Im just trying to contribute my part and get some straight answers.
