Sponsorship after one year in the militaryWhat is the name of your state? Outside the US, Denmark I really don't know if I post this the right place, if i'm not, then please forgive me. I am a Danish citizen, and I have been dating my US citizen boyfriend for 24 months. He is now joining the military in the US, and I will stay in Denmark for the next 8 months to complete my gymnasium(High school?)education. My question is; how long would he have to have been in the military before he could sponsor me, and give me permanent residence in the US, that way? |

| I'm not aware of any waiting period. The day he goes on active duty he can qualify to sponsor you under the rules for service members. For more detailed info, see: www-2id.korea.army.mil/subsites/legal/ immigration/Foreign-Citizen%20Spouse%20(US).doc |

| what exactly do you mean bu active duty? When he is in training, or when he is 'sent to war'? Last edited by Helenee; 11-07-2005 at 02:05 PM. |

| In the U.S. military someone signing up for "active duty" has the military as their full time job. No matter what they are doing, or where, they are doing it under the command of the US military. It does not matter if there is a war or not. |
