What is the name of your state? Arkansas
ok, here's the whole rundown of my situation. I've been in the navy 21/2 years, and I got orders to transfer out of my first command. i was authorized thirty days transfer leave, which I took, and then hopped on a plane to go to my new duty station. And yet, once the time rolled around to check in, I didn't. That was six weeks ago. Recently, (it was my birthday) I broke down and called home. My mom told me some master chief had called and they were cutting off my pay, I was a deserter, etc.. My family is salt of the earth, working class people, and suffice it to say they're not too thrilled by my actions, so its not like i can hide out at home. I've managed to travel across most of the country via amtrack and greyhound since i left, and I can probably live off my savings another month or so before i'm officially ****ed.
What kind of options do i have in going back? What's the best place to turn myself in? If i go back, what are the chances I can get an OTH or General, and minimal brig time? (basically how can I get out the least painful manner?)
Thanks for any advice, etc. It really is appreciated.

Reporting back could involve just an OTH and thats it. I have no idea where you should go. Maybe Norfolk?

6 weeks UA? You only have what a year and a half of active duty left assuming you enlisted for 4 years?

I am just thinking of possibly salvaging your enlistment.

Well one thing is clear and for sure [lancep] and that is each day you are "AWOL" will just make things worse for yourself! If all possible, call your last duty station and speak with someone in your chain of command and ask them what you should do; also, I would try and do anything to get a "Honorable" discharge even if it means extended time on your present enlistment! You people that want out with "bad paper" seem not to see the big picture, in that it follows you where ever you go and what ever you do for the rest of your life! Shorty out!
