thinking of awol ?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? my son has been awol for 2 weeks now. the last contact i had with him was on the 12/13/08 when he left a massage on my phone saying he would be catching a bus home on 12/17/08 when he did not show up or call by 12/19/08 i started trying to track him down. that is when i found out he hadnt showed up at formation in 2 weeks. i know he was on base 12/15/08 because bank records show he made withdrawals on base. i am very worried about him and dont know what to do. he is 19 and was at fort gordon. he was home for thanksgiving and every thing seemed ok with him. i have contacted his first sargent and the chaplain. nether could tell me what date he was reported awol. is there any way i can find out more info? ************************************************************************************... and for anyone that is considering awol please contact your family and let them know you are ok. my other son is getting married on 12/27 and the 1 that is awol was to be the best man. as a perant i feel i should be in georgia looking for my son. i feel like he is still there. he could even be sleeping in his own bed on base. dose anyone have any advice for me ?

I suppose you could file a missing person report with the local police department. I don't know how much good it will do, as the military will eventually put out a federal warrant for his arrest, but it could speed up the tracking process.

The military probably is not going to go out of there way to track him down, they'll probably just wait untill he gets picked up or turns himself in.

Good luck to you and your son.

my son called my best friend tonight. he is in jail in s.c. he got picked up for shop lifting. dont know any details of that. i contacted the jail and confirmed that. then i got in touch with the chaplain at fort gordon. he helped me get in contact with the holding co. and from there the chaplain contacted the mp's to let them know. now the mp's say the jail has to contact them and the jail is saying the mp's will have to contact them. the chaplian has been very help full to me. he has made phone calls and given me phone numbers to call tomorrow.as for the missing person report. that was the first thing i tried. the local sheriff department told me that unless there was a crime or a reason to suspect foul play it was up to the army. thanks for your reply.

Again, good luck. These dilemas are common in the military and they almost always figure themselves out.

Happy Holidays...

i found my son. it seems that he was at a party in north augusta and was left there. said he had no money and no way back to the base. he said he went 4 days with no food and then decided to steal some food and got picked up for shop lifting. he spent 6 days in aiken county jail in SC. they would not contact the base mp's to let them know they had him. he was afraid to call home because of disappointment. he finely called a friend of mine to get word to me. i had a hard time getting any help from the army. the base chaplain helped me find the people on base i needed to contact. other than that i was on my own. i finely found a bail bond co. that was willing to help him. got him out on bond and the bondsman got him back on base. he is now part of a holding co. not sure what the out come of this will be but at least i know he is safe and warm. God answered my prayers.
