Top Security Clearance questions

What is the name of your state?
Virginia. I recently finished a SF 86 Clearance for my rate conversion package. I had one debt mishap that I have cleared up. This is the only debt I have ever had it went past the 180 day mark.I was never able to pay it off cause I was out at sea and never recieved an invoice. Will this effect my top security clearance acceptability ?

Only if you've lied about it.

You say were "never able" to pay it off. You still haven't? Do you still owe it? If you still owe the money, the government might insist that you pay it off (or reach some kind of agreement if you haven't already). They key is to be very forthright and honest about it. If you lie about it the government will not likely be forgiving.

You filled out the SF-86 forms and now they are doing their initial investigation or investigation for renewal. In any case they will look at your credit report. If you have one bad debt that was paid off they might ask you about it, but shouldn't deny your clearance. If you have a history of bad credit though it may be more serious.

Really it is up to the investigator/adjudicators to put the whole package together that is your life and make the final decision...
