Trying to get into the navy with criminal record

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

Ok so I had an ex girlfriend that got me into alot of trouble in the past. She put a number of charges on me. 1 was assault with a deadly weapon which is a felony. 2 is assault causing bodily injury and 3 was burglary of a vehicle. When the time came to try to fight all these cases they made me a deal. They said they would get rid of the assault with deadly weapon and burglary of vehicle if I pleaded guilty to assault family violence and reckless driving(did on my own). I told them ok. When they asked me to explain the assault causing bodily injury I said when my ex girlfriend gave me a loving embrace, my watch pulled out the hairs on the back of her neck. So I was charged with assault family violence which is a class A misdemeanor and the reckless driving and sentanced to 2 yrs probation which I'm done with. Now before I pleaded guilty I called my navy recruiter and told him what I was about to do and he said its fine we can still get you in. Now I wanna know for sure now if its true or not. So my question is will I be able to join the navy with an assualt charge on my record. Also I did a background check on myself and the burglary of a vehicle still comes out but on it under disposition description it says dismissal and under case status it says disposed. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Also if this is a problem then can I get it expunged and try to go in again?

Probably Not

I am not a recruiter but I will bet you will not be getting in with a domestic violence conviction. The Lautenberg Amendment makes it illegal for people with domestic violence convictions to own or carry firearms. It does, however, depend on the disposition of your case - if the case is expunged or set aside I don't believe Lautenberg applies - at least that's how the statement we are asked to sign reads. I believe Lautenberg applies to all service members - even those in non combat arms. You may also have to wait a period of time before you can enlist - which may not be a bad thing. One final thought - if you did assault your girlfriend, don't minimize it by saying "I gave her a hug and my watch pulled two hairs out." If you need help, get help. Might not help a Navy career but it will help you be a better person. Good luck.

I mentioned the fact that my watch pulled her hairs out because of the court reporting. I didn't plea guilty to anything my ex said. Instead I told them a different story and they accepted it. I guess I should have mentioned that, but thats the reason I said that. If that makes any sense.... sorry if I'm confusing.
