whats the deal. any help is appreciated.

my plan was to just get a job and live normal and call that hotline every once in a while to see if my papers were in and if there was a warrant out. or is that just for the army or what?

The current Marine Corps policy on UA is to send the Marine back to where he/she went UA from. When you left Paris Island/San Diego you had orders cut to report someplace correct? Now I can't say for sure 100% because the Marine Corps treats these cases on a case to case basis. But, if I where a betting man. I would bet you will be going back to that duty station.

There is a sticky on the top of the military forum that was posted by our good friend SHORTYLONG. Use those phone numbers to get your status and take there advice.

I really don't think anyone else can give you better advice than that without telling to break the law.

Good luck you're gonna need it.

Yes there will be DFR papers. After you are gone 30 days they will drop you from there rolls and issue a federal warant for you. This is assuming they are doing things in a timely manner. I am sure the war is more of a priority to them than getting a warrant out for you.

What do you mean by "it won't get me out then?" I don't understand that question.

I must add. You only attended boot camp. Right? While the Marine Corps is tough and has its fair share of challenges you really should not judge it by what you have seen at boot camp.

Little late, but have you called GI Rights or checked out their website? I hate to keep posting this (Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't I the first to post their number before anyone else? Do I get any credit for that on the Sticky Note?) GI Rights is a trained, nationwide staff of volunteers who do nothing but let troops know what their rights, options and penalties are for every branch and scenario. Check the sticky and call. They're free and confidential. They will call you back if you have to leave a message. (they're kinda busy these days)
Little warning, though. I do know of guys who called the Marine or Army hotline for status, arranged to turn themselves in and were arrested before the date. As Cyberspook said, after 30 days you're officially UA, taken off payroll and a Fed warrant is issued nationwide, so locals can turn you in for say, a minor traffic violation. Don't count on living a normal life without 1st turning in. They will find you. Unlike the Army, Marines have a unit(s) whose job it is to find their strays...
I copy Cyberspook again: USMC handles these case by case, so nobody can predict discharge, sent back, etc. That guy on the hotline lied to you. Just know what you need to prepare for turning in. I advise calling GIRights.

If it hasn't been 30 days I would consider turning myself in if I were you. Boot camp is the hardest part, it's all downhill after that.

Anyhow, after 30 days they do issue a warrant, your picked up or turn yourself in, they take you to the brig where you sit for around 30 days. They usually discharge you after that, or that's the way it went when I was in. I was on a detail that went out and got the Deserters and brought them back.

You make the most ridiculous posts. My advice to you, is to wait untill you have a federal warrant out and then run naked through the streets with a shotgun yelling "I hate the Marine Corps"

OMG there is already so much information posted on this site for you to make an informed decision.

After you get done getting high or drunk and sleep it off. I suggest you do a search and then maybe you will figure it out.

Omg

Have you READ ANY of these postings? GO TO THE GI RIGHTS website, girights.org. They're number is POSTED FIRST ON THIS FORUM. The site is full of information that will answer your questions. I'm not posting again for you.
You have the right to:
Seek a discharge at any time, providing:
You oppose war in general-and can prove it
Military life or your assignment creates unusual hardship for dependents
Have a persistent medical of psych condition that makes military life too difficult
You are gay, bi or trans.
Guys that turn in after warrant is issued are ordinarily put in Quantico barracks on restriction until charges are filed, then you're thrown in the brig. So you might as well turn yourself in there. WHEN is up to you.
READ THESE POSTS, CHECK OUT GI RIGHTS WEBSITE & CALL THEM.
GOOD BYE AND GOOD LUCK

All Marines are not taken to Quantico! Many factors determine where they will be sent!

Quantico

ShortyLong, you are correct. I did say "ordinarily" not "all." Nevertheless, should have used another, more accurate term with regard to where UA Marines are sent. From those I know personally, and the dozens I know of, most were taken to Quantico. However, there are more that I don't know about so, please accept my apology.
