Went AWOL after getting to my assigned unit for 2 weeks.. need help! What is the name of your state? Minnesota Hi, I have read through almost every post this forum regarding AWOL and the out process at PCF. One thing I wasn't clear is that, does this out process only apply to IET soldiers? Like I stated in the title, I was in the Army for roughly 6 months before going AWOL back in 2005. I finished with Basic and AIT. Got to my assigned unit for 2 weeks before going AWOL. Please voice your opinions on whether going to Ft. Sill for out process would get me a discharge. Thanks much!!What is the name of your state? Last edited by m martin; 11-19-2007 at 06:13 PM. Well..I went to 19d OSUT for 5 1/2 months. Reported to 1st Cav at fort hood... went awol less than a month after getting to my duty station. i was awol for one year and eight days. I turned myself into PCF at ft. knox. They gave me a bus ticket and i went back to fort hood. i ws court martialed and spent 20 days in jail and got an other than honorable discharge. the whole process took about four months. returned from awol 29march2007, got discharged 20july2007. |

| MN Thank you for the inputs. My duty station is actually in Ft. Hood too. If I'm not mistaken, I was in a rear detachment unit with 13 Signal Brigade. So if my unit is still in Ft. Hood, more than likely I'll be sent back there? I did some searching around in the last couple of days, and there are cases permanent party got discharged at PCF. I was surprised that after 3 times being pulled over, the cops let me go free (one time w/ a citation). I'm also able to get a decent job after a background check. My job requires frequent traveling domestically. I have yet raised a concern for airport security. I file tax returns, and go to school just like everyone else. The army really does not have the time and resources to bother looking for us. Now, I'm not saying all this to condone AWOL in anyway. If I get to choose again, I would not have gone AWOL. arcvile311, I really appreciate the fact that you stated how long the process took you. Knowing that, I just have to find a right time to go back. I'm in the last year year of my bachelor program, and as soon as I get my degree, I'm turning myself in. As an immigrant, I know getting an OTH discharge will effectively make me illegible for green card renewal/citizenship which I do not deserve at all. I can, in a sense take the easy way out by flying back to my home country after my green card expires. However, I decided that is no different than going AWOL the second time. I will go back to Ft. Hood to face the consequences and take it from there. |

| If you do not turn yourself in freely, then, sooner or later you will be apprehended! And so we are clear, given the length of time you have now deserted, you most likely will receive at minimum a Special Court Martial, and awarded a Bad Conduct Discharge. FYI: A Court Martial Conviction is at least a lifelong Federal Misdemeanor. Where it separates itself from Misdemeanor to FELON is the length of time to serve in the Brig or Prison: Less than one year awarded=Misdemeanor; over one year awarded=FELON! |
