A Writer With QuestionsI am a writer and am currently at work on a novel whose protagonist is in the Navy, early in the story. He is somewhat of an antihero and breaks some pretty serious laws. I do have a reasonable familiarity with the UCMJ myself, because I also served in the Navy. What I am trying to do is check my research and get some opinions on what the sentences would be for the crimes I have this persona written as having committed. Since this is a fictional scenario, I would be more comfortable with someone making contact with me either over Instant Messages or over e-mail. I don't want to clutter up this forum with a thread that may or may not be appropriate; my novel is, after all, a horror novel and some of the subject matter might be upsetting to certain readers. Hope to hear from someone soon! |

Since it's been a couple of days...... and no one has responded, I thought I would refresh the thread just this once. If this is not the place for a question like mine, can someone point me to a better place to ask it? I do understand that others have realtime questions and that my fictional scenario may not be a priority to answer. Thank you in advance for any help that can be given. ![]() |

Sentences for crimesyou can find the maximum potential sentences for military crimes in the Manual for Courts-Martial. You can do a Google search for it. |

| I would also contact the JAG unit at a local base and ask for the services of someone in their free time... maybe for a fee. Like all people, JAG officers like to talk about their work. Here is some trivia... what is the only branch of the service that makes a JAG officer go through basic training?

THAT's what it was called!!Thank you, GI Rights Lawyer!! I knew there was such a book, but I couldn't for the life of me recall the name. Both posters have wonderful advice and I deeply appreciate it! |
