CA Eviction while pending litigation against foreclosing lender

In CA, may someone be evicted even though they filed a lawsuit against the foreclosing lender for wrongful foreclosure prior to the foreclosure sale taking place? Notice of pending litigation was filed and recorded with the county, prior to the investor purchasing the home through a foreclosure auction. Now the investor has filed an unlawful detainer action, is this possible even though they purchased the home knowing very well that the property was involved in active litigation?
