| Can I avoid property tax reassessment? What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? CA
About two years ago my husband and I divorced. I stayed in the house with the kids, but the property settlement agreement stated that he owned a portion of the house and that when I sold it he would receive a share of this equity.
Last month he signed a Quit Claim deed so that I could refinance in my name. He also signed a paper stating that he was receiving no money for his share. We did this so that I could get $ out to remove a rotting swimming pool from the backyard. Additionally, he wanted to be off the deed and mortgage so he could get a new mortgage with his fiance.
Now I have received a notice from the tax assessor telling me that I must show them a copy of my prop settlement. Since this document does not state that I should receive the house outright, do I have any hope of avoiding reassessment?
Thanks in advance!
