Can my mother's house be saved after auction?

What is the name of your state? Rhode Island

My elderly mother's house was sold at auction after foreclosure. Is there any chance for her to save the house at this point? She is suffering from mental illness and I was not aware that she was at risk of losing her house until 2 weeks after the auction. Are there any laws protecting her?

In many states, the purchase at auction is NOT final until "Confirmation of Sheriff's Sale", which can take place one to six weeks after the Sheriff's Sale. One can redeem up to confirmation by paying off the balance, late charges etc. plus the attorney's fees. Contact the lender attorney and see if you have any time left to do this. CAN you do this?

I'm not sure how much she even owes on the house. It was paid off at one time and I'm afraid she took out a home equity loan. I doubt I would be able to pay off the entire balance.
