Checking our bank accounts

What is the name of your state? North Carolina

We are buying a land/home package. We have already moved in but have not closed yet. How We were pre approved and approved again after the mortage company lost our paper work. They have set 3 different closing dates so far, but we still have not closed. They haven't even ever bothered to let us know that the dates were canceled. We show up at the lawyer's office and then find out. They check our bank accounts every week. Can they do this to us?

Thank you

In my experience as a former mortgage broker, yes. I've never seen any legal obligation on the part of an attorney to notify you in advance that a closing will not occur or forbidding a lender to change the date of closing.

By the way, to occupy the house until closing, did you sign anything obligating you to pay rent for the house until the day of closing?
