foreclosure b/c of HOA?

What is the name of your state? NV

We live in a condo community, and my neighbors just received a letter saying they'll be in foreclosure if they don't make arrangments or pay the 6 months of HOA fees they owe.

The owners have been trying to contact the collection agency, and the HOA, but they don't speak english, so they've been hung up on, and just told "sorry we don't speak spanish". They've made reasonable efforts to figure out what to do, since he lost his job with the huge construction slow down in the city.

Can they forclose their home because of a $1000? With fees and all it's like 3k, and a 500 payment for 6 months if they want to catch up.

THey've also faced harrasment from other neighbors who just don't like them, they get rocks thrown at their windows, and anything and everything blamed on them (like if my kids are playing outside, she'll get blamed for whatever even when she no longer lets her kids play outside b/c of the constant fines and letters).

Can they legally fight it? extend it to more than 6 months?

Thanks!

The HOA can put a lein against their home and eventually can foreclose to get their money.
If your friends need a translator, why don't you offer to help? The HOA is not required to speak Spanish and can not work with them on payments if they can not communicate.
